WHAT IS HIGH ALTITUDE TRAINING?
It is the achievement of sportive performance from advantageous physiological adaptations caused by altitude hypoxia in the organism.
Studies have shown that hypoxic (low oxygen) exercises in areas with low oxygen provided by high altitude have an effect on athletes in increasing performance and endurance. Human body: In order to adapt to this height in high altitude areas, a series of changes are made, including indicators such as increased hemoglobin, proliferation of red blood cells and high respiratory rate. Especially with the increase in red blood cell production, the body increases the oxygen carrying capacity at high altitude.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HIGH ALTITUDE TRAINING?
Adapting the body to high altitude means an increase in the rate of red blood cells by 30 – 50%. For this reason, as a result of training at the appropriate height, an increase occurs in the blood cell, hemoglobin count and enzymes in the muscle tissue of the athletes. This increase is due to training in high environment with less oxygen.
After high altitude training at the appropriate height and time, the oxygen use capacity and hemoglobin level increase in the athlete, making the muscle tissue durable in oxygen and oxygen-free environments. This training increases the performance and endurance of the athlete at lower altitudes.
In all kinds of sports branches, trainers achieve the high endurance and performance they expect from their athletes, especially in the high altitude preparation camps they do at the beginning of the season.
WHERE AND HOW IS HIGH ALTITUDE TRAINING MUST BE DONE?
Ideal heights to benefit from the benefits of high altitude training are between 1700 and 2300 m. Heights below 1700 m have little stimulating effect, and heights above 2800 m cause oxygen deficiency.
The best time for altitude training is 3-4 weeks. The more often the workouts are repeated, the quicker the adaptation becomes. It can be repeated several times in a season. In altitude training, even a 10-day period (minimal time) is effective.
