What is High Altitude Training

Scientific studies have shown that exercises performed in low-oxygen areas provided by high altitude are effective in increasing performance and endurance on athletes. In the human body, changes such as increased hemoglobin, proliferation of red blood cells and high respiratory rate occur in order to adapt to this altitude in high altitude areas. Especially with the increase in red blood cell production, the body increases its oxygen carrying capacity at high altitude.

What are the Benefits of High Altitude Training ?

The body's adaptation to high altitude means a 30-50% increase in the proportion of red blood cells. For this reason, as a result of training at the appropriate height, the number of blood cells, hemoglobin and enzymes in the muscle tissue of the athletes increase. This increase is due to training in higher environments with less oxygen. This training improves the athlete's performance and endurance at low altitudes.
In many sports, coaches achieve the high endurance and performance they expect from their athletes, especially in high altitude training camps at the beginning of the season.

Where and How Should Altitude Training Be Done ?

The ideal altitude to reap the benefits of high altitude training is between 1700 and 2300 meters. Altitudes below 1700 meters have little stimulating effect, and altitudes above 2800 meters cause a lack of oxygen.
The optimal time for altitude training is 3-4 weeks. The more often the workouts are repeated, the faster the adaptation will occur.
